Homeward Bound

On a bright, crisp morning in Chester the gates swing open as we begin our journey home. It’s such a lovely day, I still find it hard to believe that, as of today, Chester is now in the “High” tier and subject to many more restrictions, including no mixing of households indoors. Certainly, those people I saw as we drove out of the city didn’t seem to be taking any extra precautions and the news report regarding parties in Liverpool city centre last night, would suggest that not everyone is giving this second wave the care and attention it needs to defeat it.
After a swift trip up the M6 - or “Covid Corridor” as I’ve renamed it, seeing as it’s surrounded by “High” and “Very High” (or soon to be very high) risk areas, we were safely back in Cumbria. And I use the word advisedly - it just somehow feels safer here than in Chester, though I have feeling the comparative infection rates are not that dissimilar.
As travel into the high risk areas is discouraged, I won’t be heading back down to Chester anytime soon unless there is a real emergency. Whilst my sister lives only a few miles from my mum, those few miles put her on the Wirral, which has been lumped in with Liverpool City Centre. She is only allowed to leave home for essential shopping and to go to work. Paradoxically, as she works in Chester, then it would be ok for mum to go into the shop and talk to her, but not for her to visit mum, even outside.
And the government wonder why people are confused about these new regulations......
