Victorian history and Natural History.
Another visit to Belfairs Woods with a Camera Club colleague. Just caught sight of this fungus and was leaning in to photograph it when a gentleman came by. I know what its Latin name is and the reason for it but I called it by its other name - Stinkhorn.
He proceeded to tell us its Latin name - Phallus impudicus and added a piece of history that in Victorian times when out on a woodland walk the gentlemen would walk ahead and kick them over for fear of offending the ladies. Lovely tale, so sweet.
I hope nobody is offended by my blip today!
Extra is this interesting tree stem.
