Standing on crutches

This has to be one of my favourite trees.

It is an oak, and a very old one. It is big, but more notable is that it seems to be supported by its huge lower branches, which touch the ground and seem to hold the whole structure in place.

It has suffered terrible damage in this years summer gales. Big branches including some of the lower ones supporting it) have been ripped away. An effort seems to be being made to deal with this.

I hope it survives, but of course like all living things it will not live forever. But I think it deserves a few more decades yet. Here’s wishing it well .......
