For over 50 years since the last train had passed through the tunnel at Colinton it was a gloomy damp place but now it is being transformed into a bright colourful mural on the Water of Leith Walkway. Inspired by the poem “From a Railway Carriage” by R L Stevenson, the illustrations show images which he might have seen in the fields and river when he frequently stayed as a child with his grandparents nearby. Local school children and community groups have contributed to the art work and the artists, Craig Robertson and Duncan Peace, have painted the creatures, people and scenes as well as mythological creatures with amazing detail. Flumgummery saw this section being put up last Friday. and when it is completed the 140 metre long mural will be a magnificent “Longest poem ever written” with so much to see.
