National Cat Day
Once the cat household heard it was National Cat Day in the US I couldn’t get away blipping anything or anyone but them. Who makes up these days, anyway? In our house every day is Cat Day, although this group would beg to differ • Let me introduce you to our celebrities, going clockwise, starting top left: Ducky, Grouch, Old Cat and Newt. You’ve met each of them previously with the exception of Old Cat. Old Cat is 38 years old. No kidding! • The first Christmas in my first apartment, my dear sister-in-law, Barbara, made a door draft stopper for me. When new it had two eyes, a bow for a collar and a long tail filled with dried beans. Old cat has aged over the years, losing one eye, his collar and tail, with several layers of stitches underneath from numerous surgeries and patch-ups. Despite all this Old Cat is still with us. He enjoys sitting on the landing looking through the stair rails watching birds, and is the only resident cat Grouch likes! They often snuggle together during their daily catnaps • Have you hugged your cat(s) today?
