Lathyrus Odoratus

Devil's Fingers

On a damp and gloomy walk with the spaniel this morning I found a couple more slime moulds which I'll return to with my macro lens on a brighter day. I also came across a solitary example of Clathrus archeri, the Devil's Fingers or Octopus Stinkhorn. This one is in a slightly better condition than last week's but again the 'tentacles' have become waterlogged and have flopped down rather than wafting in the air. As a result there was no odour and it looks more like a limp starfish.
