Mr Blue Sky
Amazing what a difference a bit of sunshine makes. Yesterday I was feeling really down, partly because my knee was still aching but mostly because it was just such a grey, wet, miserable day.
This morning however, the grey skies disappeared, the rain stopped and the sun came out. My knee also stopped aching, thought that might just be coincidence!
All that combined to totally change my mood - I felt a lot more positive and was able to do some of the silly little jobs I just couldn’t be bothered with yesterday.
This afternoon I was booked in for a PT but as I’d forgotten it was half term, I arrived early. Not having taken a photo today, I went for a bit of a wander and spotted these decorative chimneys, nicely set against a bright blue sky. These are on the original part of the hotel, which dates back to the mid 19th century. In line with a lot of Victorian buildings, it is built in the “tudorbethan” style - black and white timber frontages and Hampton Court style chimneys.
Originally built by a wealthy Kendal ironmonger, he left it to a nephew who was six times mayor of Kendal and who, in turn, left it to the borough of Kendal. It was then sold to finance the extension to the Town Hall and the building of the clock tower. In the latter half of the 20th century the building was the local electricity board headquarters, before being sold in 1995 and developed into the hotel and health club we have today.
Certainly one of the nicer places to go and train and my good mood continued when I was able to achieve some new PBs in this afternoon’s session - all without exacerbating any injuries.
Just need to keep this positive feeling going for the next few weeks now!
