Fog clearing

Woke this morning to high viz clad hunters and bell-toting dogs skipping by in dense fog. There are here to cull out the wild boar. Last year they killed 23 in a day.

Course it raises conflicting emotions but the secular abandonment of so much land and relative lack of predators had led to a huge anecdotal increase in boar numbers: to the extent that up near us all cultivation has to be fenced. Something that was unheard off in the immediate postwar period.

Still compared to the release of 57 million game birds in the UK it seems relatively small beer.
