ROAD AMERICA CLASSIC
The last race of the season at Road America was held today under VERY windy conditions...and it's a foot face. Typically, the American Cancer Society sponsors a fund raiser run that attracts thousands of runners...but, due the COVID, that race was scratched.
So the track decided to sponsor a run of its own....the 1st Road America Classic. The Wisconsin Chapter of the My Team Triumph from Green Bay stepped up and ran the event. This organization is a non-profit that has as its purpose..."To enhance the health and well being of individuals with disabilities by fostering lasting, authentic relationships through the teamwork environment of endurance athletics."
Several hundred runners showed up and featured individuals with disabilities and "angels" who would push them around the 4.048 mile track (see Extra photo).
The runners experienced the thrill of running on a world-famous track with all it's changes in elevation and the challenge of doing it in 30-40 mph winds. There was one very long uphill, into the wind that pulled the sweat out of most of them, despite the chilly temperatures.
Did I mention that there were also walkers in addition to the runners. The inaugural running of the Road America Classic was a resounding success.
DON'T FORGET TO TURN YOUR CLOCKS BACK TONIGHT!
