In Memory of the Squirrel Massacre...

....in Holley New York on February 16 2013.The Volunteer Fire Department held a"Hazzard County Squirrel Slam" event to raise money for the Holley Fire Department. The target was RED and GREY squirrels and was encouraged as a family event. Encouraging children as young as 12 to kill wildlife. There were prizes for the largest squirrel and heaviest group of 5 squirrels. Cash and guns were their prizes! A thousand tickets were sold to this inhumane event. Many petitions were signed, many pleas were made but the event still went on. 7500 names were reported on one petition list. This is birthing season for the squirrel, how many pregnant squirrels were murdered and how many new born squirrels were left to die, how many didn't die a clean death due to inexperienced hunters,children. What are the Parents teaching their children, certainly not respect for wildlife. What of the Fire fighters, I thought they were to save lives ,not take them! What of the town Mayor and town council to approved this shameful event. SHAME , SHAME, SHAME on all of them! |A very sad day!
