Ne'er cast a clout

There is a local saying 'ne'er cast a clout 'til the May blosom is out'. It has been really pleasantly warm today and most people I have spoken to have been cautiously optimistic about the weather for the spring and summer, however with the fickle UK weather it could be back to the cold and blow next week. So make the most it.

The blosom is that of Blackthorn (prunus spinosa) it is one of the first flowering woodland/hedgerow bushes. The blosom comes before the leaves and usually attracts the early butterflies. The fruit of the Blackthorn, sloes, are used to make Sloe Gin in the Autumn. Delicious!
