Hello Goodbye

It’s been a day of greetings and farewells today. Regular readers will know that the washing machine in our Chester flat exploded last week. I’d just left it abandoned in the kitchen, in anticipation of getting a new one this week. The earliest delivery slot given was Friday 6th November. Which was fine, right up until the lockdown was announced. And then I started worrying because I couldn’t remember if I’d turned the water off properly after disconnecting all the hoses.
Didn’t want to spend the next four weeks worrying about a possible flood so came to the annoying conclusion that the only option was to use our last day of freedom to head down there and check everything. Decided to make the most of the trip and dropped in to see mum. She seemed to be her usual self and had just had her hair done so was being quite sanguine about the next four weeks. Still pleased to see us though as she had no idea we were coming down.
Got to the flat - no leaks (phew!) but turned the water fully off to be on the safe side. Made sure everything else was in order and then locked up securely, before sadly heading home. Hopefully we will be able to return before Xmas.
Seemed like we were saying “hello” to Cumbria again before we’d barely finished waving “goodbye”. And there is one more depressing goodbye to deal with today. After this evening’s session in the gym it will be closing for at least four weeks and I will have to resort to training at home. In that respect, I’ve already said hello to a new WhatsApp group my trainer has set up to challenge us over the coming weeks. And I expect to be reacquainting myself with the river and canal paths of Kendal in the near future. Though I think I’ll also need to give a welcome to warmer underwear if I’m planning on doing a lot of running this November!
