An excellent day out
I had my phone radio on all night to listen to the US Election, though I did doze off for most of it. As I write this, at 5.30pm, there still isn’t a definite result. It’s very close, and absolutely fascinating.
One of our favourite places to go, Restoration Yard has opened again, so I booked in for breakfast. We - including Archie - had a clear day - no deliveries, no walkers, no visitors etc. and the weather looked good. JR threw a few things into the slow cooker before we left.
We arrived by 10.30 and left Archie in the car while we went for breakfast. And what a super breakfast it was! Smashed avocado with figs, feta, honey and sriracha on sourdough, with two poached eggs on top.
We then did the walk round by the old trees, some are over 900 years old! This is an SSSI. (Sight of Special Scientific Interest) We’ve done this walk many times (sometimes I’ve thought I might not make it) and it’s the most excellent walk. 2.4km, it says on the map. (7,559 steps) But today it took us three hours, because we stopped so many times to admire the beautiful scenes. And how many schnauzers did we meet today? FOUR! And one lady spoke to us for ages, because she wanted one for a companion to her older spaniel. The spaniel couldn’t be let off the lead, as she would disappear off chasing squirrels, and she also ate lots of acorns (the ground was covered in them) which made her ill.
We came back round to the Yards, and had a scone and a cuppa. JR then went off shopping for a while. There are the lovliest shops there.
And so, a pretty perfect day - breakfast, a woodland walk, cuppa and scone, and shopping.
Back home to a lovely smell of a casserole just about ready for eating. We’re watching the continuing US Election coverage. I think that chap who bet $5million on aTrump win must be a bit nervous...
