Niya Jean...2005-2020

15 years ago, our two girls moved out of the house to get their own place, and Lisa warned them..."Please don't get a dog. Both of you are working, and you don't have time for a dog." HA!

Within 3 months, our oldest daughter Julie came to our house with a teacup chihuahua. Niya Jean weighed in at 11 ounces, and she could literally fit into a cup. Fast forward another 3 months, and we were "dogsitting" because Julie had to work 12 hour shifts at the hospital. In another 3 months, Niya was "our dog."

Niya had some bad joints. She had already gone through 2 knee operations, but in the last year she was really wobbling along. We could have lived with that, but about a month ago, she started to balk at her food, and in the last week she ate next to nothing.

Add to all that the 2 seizures that she had this week, and we thought it was time to lay her to rest. Always a tough decision, but one that we thought was best.

As with all of our other dogs, Niya was grandma's girl. Every night in the family room, Lisa and Niya were cuddled up in a blanket.

She was the weirdest little dog we've ever had, and it sometimes took a long time for her to warm up to people, and to other dogs. I think she really missed our other dog Holly when Holly passed.

I know that Niya knew she was loved, and in her own way,  she loved in return.

Many thanks to our friend Wanda, who moved into our house and watched her when we went on both long and short vacations.

Always sad to watch the decline of pets. :0(

Rest in peace Niya Jean. Get up there and chase a few of those wascally wabbits. Goodbye old girl.
