Bright autumn day
It's 4.43 pm and the BBC has announced at last that Biden is president-elect in the USA. What a tense few days it has been. Of course the tensions are still there, in terms of wondering how long Trump's lashing-out will last, and how much damage he and his supporters will do in the coming few weeks.
But there is the prospect of a Democrat president and of the first woman vice-president ever. I found Jonathan Freedland's measured commentary in the Guardian helpful:

The photo is of Wyming Brook, a steep valleyside walk on the edge of Sheffield. I went out early, thinking I might catch some misty inversion images. But I wasn't quite quick enough. This walk, however, was a treat in itself.
