A Lockdown Remembrance

I would normally go into town to be part of the Remembrance Day service at the war memorial. As we are in lockdown we were encouraged to stay at home, although the service did go ahead without a parade or hymns. Instead I stood outside for the 2 min silence as we were encouraged to do (I was glad another neighbour several doors down did the same), and walked into town in the afternoon to look at the poppy wreaths. Just 26 veterans were permitted to walk at the Cenotaph in London and the service on tv seemed very poignant. Good to see the Queen visit the grave of the Unknown Warrior yesterday to mark 100 years since his burial.

Day 238 / Day 4 of Lockdown 2 (for my record only)
UK deaths up 156 to 49,044 (revised basis), with 20,572 new cases, 12,949 patients in hospital and 1,185 in ventilator beds - deaths with Covid on the death certificate are now 60,051. Deaths in Russia passed 30k and in France passed 40k yesterday, with France recording an astonishing 86,852 new daily cases. The Govt has set aside £170m to help feed disadvantaged children over the xmas holidays. part of £400m of support in England. Now freight drivers who are not UK citizens will be turned away from the border if they've been through Denmark in the last fortnight - evidently the CMO is very worried about the mutated virus following the release of new information from Danish health officials. I'm glad the Queen was wearing a face mask on a public engagement, setting a good example.
