More fine weather

We started the day with sunshine but as the day went on the clouds returned. I had a Bookclub meeting today with my Camberley Bookclub. We had read a book by Hilary Mantel called Eight Months on Ghazzah Street, a story of English expats living in Saudi Arabia. Quite critical of the system we were surprised that the Saudis hadn’t reacted to it, then one of the group suggested that as she is a woman they probably hadn’t valued anything she had to write! A very different book, it was suggested that she was trying out ideas she used in later work. It didn’t seem to have a proper end either, and made me cross about how women were treated.
