‘Jack’ & ‘Tommy’

Just as soldiers used to be known as ‘Tommy’ Aitkens then Naval Ratings were, and are, known as ‘Jack’ Tar.
A year or two ago I purchased a Perspex Tommy at the November Remembrance time instead of a Poppy, this year I purchased a Perspex ‘Jack’ instead of a Poppy. They stand in the window facing each other along with my Tower Poppy and other Remembrance mementoes I have been gifted over the years.
A quiet Friday, the build up to Remembrance Sunday is complete, programmes printed, wreaths ready, blazer brushed, shoes and medals polished.
It will be a very different kind of Remembrance Service this year but one that will take place - and be remembered.
