Humshaugh in the time of Covid-19
I thought I should make some record of life in our village during the pandemic. The community shop (run by volunteers) is well organised. We are mainly using card payments, but cash is accepted.
There are cheerful signs on the door about masks and how to behave inside. Once through the door, there is hand sanitiser and spare masks in case anyone has forgotten theirs.
My extra shows today's assistants in their ppe. They were very happy to be photographed.
The bananas were going free, just in case you wonder.
You can also see our famous apple juice, made by pressing village apples.
The shop stocks a lot of things and there is even a shelf of second hand books. You bring one in and swap with another. Brilliant.
I saw Jani, the physio, this morning and had more ultrasound. She remains very positive about the outcome.
This afternoon I walked by the river. There were no swimmers there today.
We have had an intellectually challenging evening. First it was a discussion between Mary Robinson and Lord Stern about climate change after Covid-19. It was good to hear people who know a lot about it, talking so thoughtfully about the necessity of international cooperation.
Then it was a discussion about Shakespeare and Fear from The Globe. Macbeth was the play under discussion although they ranged more widely. Brilliant. I did enjoy it. (Who else studied Macbeth at O level?)
Thank you for all your good wishes for Mum. She is still unwell but in much less pain.
PS Nearly forgot that I listened to an interview with Sir Jeremy Farrar, Director of the Wellcome Trust, at lunchtime. He was explaining the fine details of vaccines. Fascinating. Is it any wonder my brain hurts tonight?!
