Honington, Warwickshire
Continuing our lockdown occupation of exploring local villages we drove out to Honington, near Shipston, this afternoon. Honington is a hamlet of 60 homes and 250 people according to the Wiki thing. You get the impression the village, and its surroundings were originally part of the Honington Hall estate, a private stately home dating from the 16th century. Even on the approach road from the A3400 traffic drives between stone pillars topped with pineapples and crosses a 17th century five arch bridge spanning the River Stour before reaching the place.
We parked outside a cottage with a For Sale sign in the middle of the village. This had the waiting estate agent smiling expectantly until he discovered we were not whom he was waiting for. We walked to the Church of All Saints first, although quite old (16/17th century) it had been rebuilt, except for the 13th century tower which is still intact. See extras.
Then we walked out of the village to the bridge we had crossed. Unfortunately it was not possible to get to the bank on either side of the bridge so getting a good photo of the arches was difficult/impossible. I've added one attempt to the extras.
As it's Flower Friday, hosted by BikerBear, my main picture is of roses growing against an old cottage door making access impassable.
