Shadows
Our morning of sun and shadows gave way to an afternoon of increasingly thickening clouds as an overnight rainstorm moves in. Luckily I got my camera out early during the best light • The shadow on this bluejay’s face gives him a rather introspective look, I think, which got me to thinking about a favorite poem by William Butler Yeats: When You Are Old. Are you familiar? • I’d like to share the first verse with you here:
When you are old and gray and full of sleep
And nodding by the fire, take down this book
And slowly read, and dream of the soft look
Your eyes had once, and of their shadows deep;
Yeats is an Irish treasure.
