Diary of an Edinburgher

You can always rely on chimps...

Didn't start my swimming again this morning, as it's a bit of a rush to then get to the zoo. Mind you, if I just popped up to the local pool, I would have time. But somehow, now that I own a pink swimming cap, I feel I've outgrown the wee crowded pool. No. I need room. And a place where I don't feel silly wearing a hat, because everybody else does. Tomorrow!

Off to the zoo this morning. And it was heaving. With people. Families. It was such a lovely sunny warm day, it certainly brought everybody out. There's been a bit in the papers about Mr Panda doing handstands and generally getting frisky, and I thought that would be good to see, so I booked a time. When I got there, the queue was a mile long, and I decided if he was doing handstands, he wouldn't be doing them just as I arrived. He'd've done them earlier. Or he'd be doing them and I couldn't get near for the crowds. So I went to see the chimps instead.

They were all sitting around on their high branches only few feet away. They were all very thoughtful. Or possibly bored. As I left, I realised that they were waiting to be fed, as the keepers went in with big buckets.

Then one big hairy chimp came in, sat right in front of us and peed (in fact, I hadn't realised and have a photo of the flow), then examined his friend's bum carefully. Then he turned his back to us and he... no, I can't tell you. Suffice to say, the whole crowd, as one voice, yelled:
'No! He's not going to... Yes he is... YEUCH!!'

You can always rely on chimps for a laugh! a bit of action!

Our talk today was by the Man in Charge of Plants and Sustainability. It was a great talk. I'm of the opinion that anybody giving a presentation about their passion, is interesting. No... there may be some exceptions. But generally. It was very interesting and the hour and a half flew by. I think the new manager is really getting good things going at the zoo. I'm really impressed with what they do.

On the way to the zoo this morning I met a new acquaintance, briefly. And I KNOW we will get on like a house on fire! I'm hoping to meet up with her tomorrow.

And although it does not involve coffee and cake, I am very very very excited!
