A sunny afternoon
Rosie requested a walk around the water meadows before she heads back to Leeds for more work on her dissertation and revision. Jane has bronchitis (apparently she just has to let it run its course) so I took Rosie down. It has been a while since she has been round and there has been a lot of clearing, trees cut down and a new shared foot and cycle path.
The Itchen Navigation was constructed in the late 17th century to allow the transport of cargo on barges between Winchester and Southampton. Locks, sluices and hatches were built to control the water levels and manage flow tothe adjacent water meadows and mills.
