Nicky and her Nikon

Polesden Lacey

This week Luke and Meriel should have been in Costa Rica on holiday, but the pandemic meant they, like so many others, had to cancel their trip. Luke has hardly taken any leave this year and he is not allowed to carry it forward to next year, so he has taken the rest of this week off or else it is wasted, and so today we went to Polesden Lacey - quite a far cry from being in the rain forests of Costa Rica with your girlfriend to going to a National Trust property with your mum!

And, being the numpty that I am, when we got there we found out that I had actually booked our entry for tomorrow and not today, but the lady on duty checking in the cars (as in Covid times you have to pre-book as they only let in a certain amount of people) was kind and let us in. It wasn't busy at all, and we set off on a long walk with Xena and did not see many people - at some point we got a bit lost and I was grateful when we did actually see some other walkers who could give us directions. The long walk near the house is currently closed which is why I could get this shot of Luke without any people in the background. When we set off on our walk it was the most perfect day with blue skies (see extra) but as we finished our walk an hour and a half later it started raining, so we timed it well.

I spent the afternoon working on images to update my website which is very out of date, so I am feeling a bit cross eyed now so I won't be looking at journals tonight.

We have decided to go ahead and book our trip to SA and hold thumbs that Luke's college dates do not clash with our trip -the training staff at his work are being very vague about the dates and have given him a 4 month window of when the 21 days of training can take place, which doesn't really help us at all. We hit another stumbling block when Gavin tried to book flights last night and of course all those vouchers that British Airways have given us for previous cancelled trips due to Covid cannot be used for an online booking - plus for some insane reason the flights from London to Durban are four times more expensive than the flights from London to Johannesburg, so we need to query that too. Gavin was too busy at work to hang on the phone to BA today, and as the vouchers are in his name BA won't deal with anyone but him.

Luke is cooking supper tonight, what a treat!
