Heading for frost

A string of crystal clear days and frosty nights. I noticed the sunset out the kitchen window and went out on the deck for a few minutes. What sounded like Spring Peepers were calling in the woods. This seemed confused, so I’ve investigated and learned that the tiny frogs (only an inch long) do sometimes sing in the fall. Maybe they like to give one last hurrah as they find places to hibernate. Or maybe they think spring is just around the corner. For them perhaps it is, as they will partially freeze over the winter and wake up to thaw and carry on in the early spring, when they really start to sing.

Back inside, daughter I. was firing up her cello for virtual quartet practice, so the music over the next hour and a half was various harmonies and melodies of Christmas.
