Recession busting bait
I took my mate Tony out on the Lota mudflats to pump Yabbies this afternoon. Yabbies are small estuary crayfish, about an inch and a half long and they make excellent bait. Gathering them is hard work because they live in holes about 30 to 50 cm deep in the mud or sand. To collect them you need a hand pump to suck them out of their holes. It is hard, sweaty work. Tony took a few goes to get the hang of it but in the end we were getting two or three yabbies per pump.
Now they are in a bucket in my garage with a aerator to keep them alive till tomorrow morning. My intention is to head out in the boat to a reef I haven't been to before.
We had another big dump of rain last night. 40mm on already saturated ground just turned the garden to a spongy pulp. Hopefully things will dry out over the next few days.
