All That Remains

There used to be a village here. I think this was the mill.  Nearby was the church, reduced to a 'romantic ruin' by the local landowner in the nineteenth century. The graveyard remains, still in use and very well tended.

This was Upper Ancrum, which is confusing since it is much lower than Nether Ancrum on the higher ground. I guess the people found the latter a more convenient location.  The modern village is very pleasant.
