Sheep

Another depressingly grey and dreary day with the rain returning this afternoon. The photo is a close up of part of a piece of “architectural salvage” we have in the garden. It’s actually a manual sheep shearing device - a hand cranked flywheel was connected to the small gear in the picture and that, in turn, connected to the clippers via a flexible coupling. I’m assuming it was at least a two man operation as I don’t see how one person could turn the flywheel, operate the clippers and hold down a wriggling sheep, all at the same time. Whatever it used to do, it now serves as a perch for the birds as they line up to feast at one of our many bird feeders.
A Coal Tit, a Robin and a Dunnock amongst those observed utilising the facility earlier this morning.
And that’s about the highlight of today really. Had to nip to Asda because I’d not got anything in for lunch, and somehow came away with a tub of 500 multi coloured LED lights because, apparently, “we haven’t got enough Christmas lights”. My own observations would suggest otherwise but, hey, what do I know?
Mrs C started writing the Christmas cards this afternoon whilst I just sat in front of the telly and cleared some of the rubbish I’d put on record over the last few weeks.
On a more positive note, I managed to speak to the joiner who had been recommended to us and he promised to try and get round this week to get an idea of what we want doing. I’m not counting chickens just yet, but maybe there is a chance that we might actually get some new woodwork in the house next year.
