Arwenack House
Sitting in Grove Place opposite Discovery Quay is Arwenack House, the oldest building in Falmouth, originally built in 1385. It was largely rebuilt around 1567-1571 by Sir John Killigrew, the first Governor of Pendennis Castle. At that time it was described as ‘the finest and most costly house in the country’.
It was the Parliamentarian Headquarters during the Civil War and as a result was again rebuilt I 1786.
We often walk past it on our way home without giving it a second glance, I’d like to get a look at what was originally the courtyard but now lies hidden behind the walls.
