A time for everything

Long Branch Farm

Friday
When I first opened the blinds this morning, it looked like it was going to be another dull dreary day. However, by the time we had finished breakfast, there were a few small patches of blue sky, and as time went on the patches of blue increased in size, finally giving us several hours of beautiful sunshine. Having been busy with cooking and cleaning the last few days, I was eager to get out for a walk, which we chose to do at Long Branch Farm, a Cincinnati Nature Center site in Goshen. In 1973, Neil McElroy (former Procter & Gamble CEO and former Secretary of Defense) and his wife Camilla gave their beloved Long Branch Farm to Cincinnati Nature Center. The McElroys had a long-standing interest in education and wished to see the property become an environmental education facility. For years, the Nature Center operated the land as a working farm, educating visitors about agricultural ecology. Then in 2007, the Nature Center refocused the farm’s mission, leasing the agricultural fields to a local farmer, and preserving the rest of the land in its natural state, a mixture of meadowland and forest crossed by several streams.
This evening, we enjoyed our Thanksgiving dinner, part 2! I think I’ll give the bathroom scales a miss for a few days!
