A time for everything

Silly Saturday

Laura was working at the Learning Center this morning, so we decided to delay our outing to the afternoon when she could join us. After breakfast, Roger wanted to get some more leaves up with his new leaf blower/sucker, and Jen went out to help him, while I was cleaning up the kitchen, and Jason was working on some papers.
We went to pick Laura up about 1pm and drove up to Aullwood Audubon Park in Dayton, to see the new Giant Troll installation by Danish sculptor/artist Thomas Dambo (See collage in extras). Roger and I had seen his installation at Bernheim Arboretum in Kentucky earlier in the year, and I had recently discovered this brand new installation. Dambo uses recycled wood and other materials to make his creations. Each installation has a “fairy Story” to go along with it. In this case, Dambo says it’s a story “about tree trolls that live in the forest. And the youngest of the tree trolls, Bibbi, she's really curious about what is outside the forest. Then one day she sees a gigantic metal bird flying in a straight line across the sky— VROOOOM! And she's like, ‘Wow! That must be like a bird that has a lot of stories from the great outside!…”
Dambo likes to make his fairy tales ring true for locals. In this case, nearby Dayton Airport, and Dayton’s favorite sons, the Wright Brothers, provided inspiration.
I had expected the Giants to be the subject of my blip, but when we returned to our car, we found this crazy “Art car” parked next to ours, and I thought well it is Silly Saturday, how can I pass that up! I’ve put another shot in the extras!
