Plum Island
Today we visited Newburyport for the first time ever. This is a Massachusetts coastal town near the mouth of the Merrimack river.
Newburyport has all the hallmarks of a New England port with a granite customs house but instead of wooden clapboard most of the town was built with brick after a devastating fire in 1811.
After wondering around the town and stocking up on some Christmas essentials at a British shop we drive over to Plum Island. This is essentially a sand bar holding back the Atlantic Ocean that has plenty of Kanute style expensive seafront houses on stilts. Just as we walked back from the beach the sun broke through the clouds and we were treated to an amazing sunset.
