Port Jackson Fig
I read yesterday that Melbourne city council assigned email addresses to 70,000 street trees so passsers-by could report maintenance issues. Instead, the council’s in-boxes were ‘flooded with arboreal love letters and existential ruminations’.
This fig is young but if all goes well it will grow to 30 metres high and live for 100+ years.
There were ants in its hollow, and the interlocking leaves are perhaps their handiwork. The tiny yellow fig fell long before reaching maturity.
