Quod oculus meus videt

The Path to Shining Tor

It didn't look good.  Firstly the road into the Goyt Valley was closed, causing a detour through Whaley Bridge (of potential dam burst fame) and then on finally parking up to start the walk you could hardly see 50 ft ahead due to a combination of rain and low cloud (i.e. fog!).

Still surely it was worth a walk?  Well it did prove to be in the end, though it wasn't looking good as the fog stubbornly held on throughout the morning.  Staying low, walking along the edge of the reservoirs the faintest hint of better light appeared just as it was time to start limbing up to Windgather Rocks, a small escarpment of rock to the west of the valley.  Then it was the treat of a ridge walk, finally reaching Shining Tor, getting brief patches of sunlight in the distance, illuminating the hillside around and about.

The front that had gone through, allowing for the change in the weather had also caused the temperature to drop a few more degrees, which combined with the wind made for an impressive wind chill factor. Thankfully it was only a short off from the Tor, back to the car and the relative warm on the drive home.
