What am I?
MrHCB drove down to Chinnor & Princes Risborough Railway this morning to pick up his latest purchase (which weighs 20kg). It's a re-purposed chunk of cast iron industrial archeology aka a boot scraper. It's a Great Western Railway 1943 Rail Chair Mould No. 95 cast by GKN. It's slightly easier to see in the extra that it is the bracket that holds the rail onto the sleeper.
In 2019 the volunteers of CPRR changed the railway tracks into Princes Risborough so that passengers could get on and off the steam train on Platform 4 with direct access from the main line to London Marylebone on Platform 2. The idea was that families could come out of London to enjoy the steam railway. Sadly that has not happened in 2020 and the railway's fund raising has taken a bad hit. The volunteers are nothing if not creative, so they have sold the spare sleepers for raised beds in vegetable gardens, sold the spare rails for scrap metal, and are now making the spare rail chairs into boot scrapers, putting a stiff brush where the rail would have been.
