Stained Glass Windows

For a Thai friend's baby shower, we made stained glass window heart cookies. Yeah, I know Valentine's day is over, but no one seemed to mind.

The idea of a baby shower is very strange to most Thais. We explained it as a birthday party/receiving party for the baby and the mom-to-be. Everyone seemed up for a party. However, afterward I was told that some Thais don't like to celebrate before the baby is born for fear that it will bring bad karma and the child won't be healthy. Hopefully any thoughts like that were outweighed by the generosity, love, and joy that was shared by all through the party.

In regards to the cookies...they are actually very simple to make. The frame is a sugar cookie without baking powder or baking soda. After refrigerating the dough, we rolled it out, cut out shapes, placed them on a foil covered cookie sheet, and placed a hard candy in the middle of each heart. In the oven, the candy melts and makes a colored window. Easy and fancy too! :)
