Not something I would have wanted in the past, but like many of us looking for light and cheer I enjoy lighting it of an evening for folk passing on the lane

Here's the wiki entry on Clare that I thought some of you enjoying him may want to explore.  He was the son of a farm labourer, lived in poverty most of his life and spent several periods in Northampton general lunatic asylum.

So, todays verse :

While snows the window panes bedim
The fire curls up a sunny charm
Where creaming oer the pitchers rim
The flowering ale is set to warm
Mirth full of joy as summer bees
Sits there its pleasures to impart
While children tween their parents knees
Sing scraps of carrels oer by heart
