One wrapped already, one to go...

...And a little drop of cheer for the chef.

I finished cooking the cakes today. There’s a ‘proper’ one and another (oblong) one to keep us cheered (and the wolf from the door) until we’re ready to cut the big one.
All way too calorific really, but what can you do Gladys? It’s Christmas.
Perhaps if I don’t marzipan and ice them? (Who am I kidding? My rolling pin will be all over it tomorrow).

I make meticulous notes, each year, regarding the size of the cake tin, the degree of heat (placement in the oven), the timings (to the second) and the size of the cake tins... (And yes actually, those near and dear to me have been known to call me ‘Monica’, thank you for mentioning it *). Yet every single year (even when all the factors remain constant) the finished cake varies in colour, consistency, crumbliness and (that magic word where cakes are concerned) moistness.

I give in.
Some you win, some you lose :-)
