Santa’s on his way?

It was a pretty beautiful day, almost wall to wall sunshine. I was out early posting the last parcels, then we had a call with the sales people of the new house we’re looking at, then I went for a run.

After lunch we walked around the Caring Lane area, dropping in on Doreen on the way back to take in essential supplies. Susan had already been up in the morning to deal with a small crisis. It was walking up to her house this evening that gave me tonight’s blip of one of her neighbours’ annual Christmas display.

The call about the house was interesting, throwing up more questions than answers. It seems the house we were looking at will not be completed until November. It’s available and if our current house had a buyer we could reserve it and then complete within 42 days. This would mean having to find alternative accommodation until the new place was ready. And paying full stamp duty and running the risk that someone else could reserve it before us and there’s only the one on the site.

We are going to see a couple of other houses on Saturday, one of which is empty and could be completed by the end of March.

Kent continues to reel under accelerating virus cases. Medway is the highest in England and Maidstone third highest. Is this a mutation that is more infectious? Combined with schools being infection hotspots and large numbers of shoppers in places like Bluewater or a significant number of people ignoring restrictions? Or are other factors at play. Matt Hancock said today that everyone in Kent should behave as if they already have Covid. Gulp.
