Goodbye old friend

These are just a part of the remains of a fine, large, very old Beech tree which, for safety reasons, had to come down earlier this week. The lower part of the tree was hollow and on the right of the photo you can see some of the large bracket fungi which had been weakening it.

It was growing in Ashmeadow Woodlands near the centre of the village.

I must have walked the footpath next to it at least twice each week for the past 26 years. So that must be over 2,500 times.  I shall miss it very much
