The Old and The New

The steep dirt path was long used as an unofficial shortcut to get from Willamette Blvd to Swan Island. A few years ago it was blocked off when the city constructed a newer, safer, and longer trail, the Waud Trail. You can see a chain link fence at the very top of the picture. If you follow it to the left of the picture, it slowly heads down to a bridge crossing the railroad tracks that run along the base of the hill. Some time ago, someone removed part of the new fencing so you can get to the old dirt path, which is what we did this morning. There is hardly any underbrush, the path was pretty dry, so it was an easy walk and  very nice.
The extra shows where the path takes a sharp right to avoid a fallen, but still living native oak. You can see Freightiner Truck factory down on Swan Island.
