Life's Little Moments

Another cold day here in New Jersey, with overcast skies most of the day.  A perfect day to spend some time in the hide since there wasn't any sun to blow the highlights off the histogram!  I put some seeds out in some different places and then waited.  It never takes long for the titmice and chickadees to find any new source of food and before long they were darting in and out, grabbing seeds and flying off to eat them in private.  In short order the white-throated sparrows and juncos had also discovered the new food venue and were jostling for position.  All a great way to forget the world for a few blissful hours.

I shot this from a distance of about 4-5 feet.  I found a great lichen-covered branch and stuck it in the snow near the food, hoping for a shot like this.  Bingo.

Started the day with a long chat with my parents.  They are doing as well as could be expected after so many months of isolating.  In spite of more rainy days now in OR, they are still getting out to walk and/or geo-cache several times a week, which is great both physically and mentally.  And we are all hoping we can get vaccinated sooner than later so that we can see each other again.  I miss them so much.

Very alarmed to read about new mutations of Covid, both in the UK and in S. Africa.  I fear that this virus is going to do a lot more harm before we eventually beat it.  To all my friends in the UK, please take all precautions and keep yourselves safe.

And to everyone - stay safe, be careful, be kind.  And I personally recommend dark chocolate.
