Life's Little Moments

The Other Snowbird

Although they are not referred to as snowbirds, the White-throated Sparrows are our other most common winter bird, arriving each fall and departing in the spring.  And when it snows, they show up in droves at our feeders.  They are medium sized sparrows with an ability to puff up to about double their actual size. There are two color morphs - the one featured here is the common white-striped variety (see the tan-striped morph HERE on Flickr). I personally think they are one of our most striking sparrows, particularly the white-striped morph.  Very jaunty.

I slept poorly last night, so slept late this morning.  Hubs waited until I was up and then made his famous blueberry pancakes - a very nice way to start the day.  I baked my bread after breakfast (must have gotten the dough just right this time because the boule looks just perfect!)  And, then Hubs and I went out for lunch (drive through, and eaten in the car, as one does during a pandemic) and a nice long drive.  It was nice to have time together uninterrupted by phones, emails, etc.

This evening we are doing facetime cocktails with some friends which will be fun.  In the summer we were able to get together with them outside but now it's way too cold. Like us, they are staying home and away from people.  I know far too many people who've been diagnosed recently with Covid - a reminder of how incredibly contagious this virus can be.

So, stay safe, stay home if you can, be kind and ... you know...chocolate...
