We got the skis out!
The snow that fell Wed- Thurs was nice fluffy powder and we found out last month that Cole Park had widened out their hiking trail and it could be used for cross country. Now one distinct advantage to Cole besides the fact that it is a lot closer than Greenwood ( which is at the exact opposite corner of the county) , is that the trails are largely flat. And though we have been doing this since our 30's..... we have never gotten really good at it because we just don't get out that often. I , in particular, am really bad on hills. My method of stopping is to fall down in a handy snowbank. So we headed off to the park today. It really was back country skiing on a not groomed trail. took us 2 hours to get around a mile and a half loop. But it was beautiful and quiet and the bonus of the day was the unexpected find of a flock of little birds which turned out to be the last thing I expected- a flock of common redpolls. And no bird lens and no binoculars!!! ARRGGH. Which actually was a good thing that I didn't have the long lens because the first thing I did was fall over into a snowbank.:)
So the main photo is from a bridge crossing over the creek, the husband and his skis, and one of the redpolls seriously blown up (I had the wide angle telephoto with me ).
