Message in a card

This Christmas, for some reason, we decided to open the Christmas cards all at once rather than as they arrived through the letterbox. Obviously, this carries a little bit of jeopardy in case you come across a card from somebody who you forgot to send a card to. Thankfully, this morning, that didn't happen.

After yesterday's news that London is now in COVID-19 Tier 4, preventing travel outside of the tier and stopping most in-home gatherings on the big day, opening the cards en masse like this was a lovely way to be reminded of all the people in your life. While many senders acknowledge the strangeness of the year and the very different way we will all be spending Christmas, it was lovely to spend some time reading all the messages of goodwill and quite heartwarming to read the individual notes. I don't think an email or a text will replace the game of guessing the handwriting on the envelope, enjoying the card's image and reading a personalised message.
