Evolving traditions
When the London lockdown shifted to Tier 3 in the middle of last week we finally decided that our Christmas Day plans would not involve any travel, which turned out to be a good thing as travel was - effectively - banned by Boris' last minute rule change on Saturday putting us in Tier 4. Our decision earlier in the week meant that I started my shopping before the new restrictions were published.
Apparently, PY always had bread sauce with Christmas dinner. This was never part of my family's traditions but over the years it's become part of mine. It's a beautiful thing: a gradual merging of one family's traditions with another. Sadly, I've never made a successful bread sauce from scratch so I rely in Coleman's sauces. Of course, this was the one thing I forgot on Saturday.
So, this evening I ventured out to a supermarket. The signs were not good on entering the shop because the fruit and vegetable section had been emptied by shoppers who got there earlier. And, on initial inspection, packet sauce supplies had also been devoured by anxious shoppers. But forgetting any dignity and a little crawling on the floor - because, of course, sauces are on the bottom self - and there was an entire box of the packets I needed at the back of the shelf.
So, another item checked off and another tradition can continue to be developed in this house.
