Plus ça change...

When we arrived in France I was given two* excellent pieces of advice: (1) always keep an EDF bill handy (2) keep the envelope your insurance reminder comes in.

The latter is because you used to have only a 14 day window to change your insurer at renewal date, and insurers would delay posting the letter so you didn’t get the letter until the end of the 14 day window. If you didn’t have the envelope as proof of postmark, then you were bound by the date on the letter.

I think that insurance rule is gone now and we are treated like grown ups who can change their insurance whenever they like, but old habits die hard and this renewal notice clearly sat on a printer for a good ten days before it met its envelope.

*There was also the thing about green drinks but as that applies everywhere I discounted it (to my cost....)

(And I have not changed my insurer in France since 1998.)

Work mostly today.
