Dammed

Most portrait orientation shots I prefer to crop to 5x7 or 4x5 and I was trying to work out why I like this image in the original proportion. I think it is because it has a strong vertical element in the fallen tree trunk.

Although light levels low and sky overcast, these dried reeds reflect the light above, showing up quite bright in the image against the dark murky pool.

I used a bit of split toning to emphasize the highlight/shadow difference and compensate for a lack of shading in the flat light.
