Busy

Not my photos at the break of dawn but Angie getting up early to move the horses from a field without a shelter onto the main field with shelter. The bugs, flies & midges are still bad, so they need to flee into their dark shed during the warmest parts of the day.

I went off to the agricultural engineers to get a new diesel filter for the broken down John Deere. Of course, they had the part in stock. Also took a 2-metre-long roller from my grass mowing attachment which had broken in half in the half-hearted hope they could weld it together & save the €200 odd a new one would cost. Of course, they could for €10. I asked if I could do a straight swap of my 1965 tractor with the little tractor with 1,700 kg weight on the back being serviced. Of course, .....not!

Back at the entrance to home somehow strung the recycling bin, which was emptied this morning, to the back of my car. When I had the Jeep could use the tow hitch for the 80 m long journey to the house!

Changed the diesel filter & the old girl fired up on all 3 cylinders. During the day saw others getting in another silage crop. It won't be the last. Others have had a delivery of a large sausage of brewers 'waste', the stuff left after brewing beer which is fed to cattle by some.

Finally, after evening dog walk took some photos for a quiz. House with a maypole like tree with a stork perched on it. Sometimes you will see poles outside houses with loads of baby clothes attached to it - that is when a baby arrives. Then there are small cuts down birch trees attached to houses with ribbons - these are connected to a 'courting' tradition, a boy showing his love for a girl.

My stork pole was erected on a wedding day by the guests & instructs the newly-weds to produce a child within a year & if they fail then they have to hold a party with free beer & food.

And finally when the walk was done, there was a delicious meal of Rindsroulade:  rolled up beef in a strong spicy sauce with boiled potatoes. Thin but broad slices of beef covered with a layer of mustard, strips of bacon & sliced gherkins are then rolled up & pinned, fried at high heat briefly, whack in tomato concentrate, add some liquid & then let cook very slowly for a few hours.
