Rolling

The clay tiles that were thrown off the outbuilding roof that we re-tiled 3 weeks ago need to be rolled to see if they are sufficent for the area I need or whether it needs the trailer full of tiles from the other side. Not sure why we never paved this area before as it is makes the transport of hay & straw bales into the stables 200% easier. The re-roofing was ideal.

In days gone by, old roof tiles were often to be seen on tracks and in the forest to repair holes. However, for environmental reasons this has almost totally ceased/is banned. As far as I am aware this only applies to concrete tiles but not for old clay tiles.

When I was hitching up the roller to the tractor (being attached on the front makes it much easier to do accurate work) I found a silver coloured spoon showing out of the earth. I know it is not ours. It is very recognisable. A child's mid-size spoon made by the huge German WMF tableware company founded in 1853. The extra photo shows the spoon, in the middle, with a motive of "Moritz" one of the characters in the famous German children books "Max & Moritz" written in 1865. The spoon like most WMF tableware is made with a special form of stainless steel known as "Cromargan" which they came up with in 1927.

Despite all the history, the spoon is probably from the 1970-90s when families lived here but one has to say the quality shows. The same Max & Moritz cutlery is as far as I know still sold new by WMF.

Today the chimney sweep was here for the second & final sweep of the year. I normally photograph them on the roof but somehow forgot today and only got an emergency extra photo of them leaving the property in their van. I need the photo for the record, nothing to do with the work, simply for completeness.
